european day of jewish culture 2014

ICJW Representative Nadine Iarchy gave a speech for the 15th European Day of Jewish Culture in Antwerp, at a function organised by Bnei Brit.

She made the closing speech which was titled “The Jewish Woman and her task as a centipede”.

She spoke about the work of ICJW, about the problems with the get, and the many roles a Jewish woman has. She combined a serious talk with humour referring to the multitasking of women, and of Jewish women in particular, with the analogy of a centipede used in English language and the Dutch word for this same creature, duizenpoot, which means literally 1000 feet – ie her woman has somehow lost 900 feet
