news update 2014

In South Africa the Union of Jewish Women is strong & relevant. A very successful National Conference was held in Johannesburg. Lynne Raphaelly was installed as our next National President.

While Margot Segal will report more fully on South Africa, we would like to mention the excellent presentation by a Human Trafficking activist, introducing the subject to the audience in a very effective & hard-hitting manner. Following on from this contact, we have made contact in Cape Town with the A21 Campaign, the biggest organisation operating in the field of Human Trafficking.

A representative addressed a recent UJW Management meeting in Cape Town, & will also be talking at the upcoming ‘Woman of Courage’ event in Cape Town. A survivor of trafficking will also be talking at this event. We hope to become more involved with this organisation, creating an awareness of the issue both in the Jewish & broader communities.
