news update 2014

The Australian affiliate held a cocktail party in Sydney in June to celebrate the election of Robyn Lenn OAM to the position of ICJW President. It was a delightful event with many dignitaries present.

Since our Convention in May our sections around Australia have been involved in a number of activities which include:
  • Pink Sunday events to raise money for breast cancer research
  • A community forum on Respectful Relationships
  • A multicultural event packing birthing kits for African women
  • An interfaith dinner entitled ‘Reflections of Jerusalem’ with an interfaith panel of speakers
  • Our continuing programs giving one-on-one support to new mothers of all backgrounds who are isolated from their support network
  • Our continuing seniors programs and other community service activities in all our sections around Australia
  • Fundraising events to support our projects in Israel – ILAN, Haifa Rape Crisis Center and Haifa University Ethiopian Women’s Fund in memory of Dr Geulah Solomon OAM z”l
  • Awareness raising of issues such as Violence against Women and Trafficking
  • Commemoration of UN International Day of Peace on 21 September
The events in Israel and Gaza were of great concern to the Jewish community in Australia and the consequent rise in anti-semitic events around the world as well as in Australia have been deeply troubling.
