commemoration of ww2 round-up

On July 21, 2012, the  President of France, François Hollande, commemorated the 70th anniversary of the largest roundup of French Jews at the "Vel d'Hiv" stadium during World War II. The ceremony was attended by many Jewish leaders, including  Richard Prasquier, the president of the CRIF - France's Jewish community representative organization.

President Hollande said in his speech that the crime against the Jews in July 1942 was committed in France by France, repeating the statement of national responsibility that President Jacques Chirac made in 1995. He also spoke out  strongly about the killings earlier this year at the Jewish School Ozar Hatorah in Toulouse, and he vowed to curb anti-Semitism in France. The French President also said that the security of the Jewish community was the business of the whole country and should not rest solely on the shoulders of the Jewish community.
