Dr Halperin-Kadari was elected as one of 23 members of its prestigious women's rights organization in 2006. The UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) provides the basis for realizing equality between women and men through ensuring women's equal access to, and equal opportunities in, political and public life -- including the right to vote and to stand for election -- as well as education, health and employment.
As Vice-Chairman of CEDAW, Dr. Halperin-Kadari holds the highest position ever held by an israeli in any U.N. independent experts committee.
Dr. Halperin-Kadari is the head of the Bioethics, Philosophy and Law Graduate Program at the Law Faculty in Bar-Ilan University and the Director of the Rackman center for the Advancement of Women's Status at the university. She also served in the past as an advisor on women's rights at the prime minister office.
