INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF JEWISH WOMEN CONVENTION CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, 6 – 12 MAY 2010
OBJECTIVES OF THE 21st ICJW CONVENTION The 21st International Convention is entitled Beyachad ● Ubuntu ● Together. It will provide a platform for Jewish women from around the world to debate issues and formulate opinions and actions relating to:
• Promoting feminine leadership • Boosting self-esteem among young women • Opposing domestic violence • Halting human trafficking • Encouraging interfaith and inter-cultural dialogue • Fighting anti-Semitism and racism • Freedom for Agunot (Jewish women awaiting religious divorce) • Creating Awareness of health and environmental issues. • HIV & Aids
The Convention will also enable delegates to exchange ideas on approaches to volunteerism.
The convention will run from Thursday 6th May until Wednesday 12th May 2010 at The Protea President Hotel in Cape Town.
The Convention will take the form of plenary sessions with high profile keynote speakers, and breakaway discussion groups, to facilitate exchange of opinions and ideas. The speakers and programme are in the process of being finalised.
Outline Program: Thursday 6th & Friday 7th May: Pre-Convention ICJW Executive Meeting Saturday 8th May: Leisure Day, with evening Gala Opening Ceremony & Dinner hosted by the City of Cape Town Sunday 9th, Monday 10th & Tuesday 11th May: Convention working day / plenary and breakaway sessions Tuesday 11th May: Closing Dinner Wednesday 12th May: Post-Event Executive Committee meetings & Presidents Lunch
